President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday received Nigeria’s Super Eagles and their coach Rohr Gernot in Abuja.
It was at a farewell reception at the Council Chambers in the Presidential Villa, for the national team, before their departure to Russia to take part in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Nigeria is among the five African countries featuring in the competition.
President Buhari asked the Nigerian team to play a clean and fair game but bring the World Cup trophy back home. He said that the team is very young but encouraged them to display the Nigerian spirit and their knowledge to a great advantage over their opponents.
The players are expected to leave the country today for London in preparation towards their match against England at the Wembley Stadium on Saturday evening, another pre-World Cup friendly.
