Russia 2018: Senegal Defender Ruled Out Of World Cup With Ankle Problem

Senegalese defender Saliou Ciss has been ruled out of the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Russia following an ankle injury.

The 28-year-old left-back has failed to recover from the ankle problem he sustained during the international friendly with Luxembourg last month.

Caen defender Adama Mbengue, 24, has been named to replace the Angers FC of France star in the Senegal squad.

The injury prognosis was confirmed by the Senegal Football Federation (FSF) via a statement which said: “Saliou Ciss can no longer participate in the World Cup because of a serious injury that occurred during our team’s preparation.”

Mbengue was initially on the four-man standby list for the Teranga Lions before he linked up with the team in Moscow on Sunday.

According to FIFA rules, team can change injured players 24 hours before their opening games.

Senegal face Poland in their World Cup Opener in Group H on Tuesday before facing Japan and Colombia.
